Thank you Mr President,

First of all, let me welcome the update from the Fact Finding Mission. Your work is critical to ending impunity for human rights violations and abuses in Libya.

We are pleased to see the increased political stability in Libya over the last two years. It is vital that the same progress is made towards accountability - bringing perpetrators to justice, as well as preventing further violations and abuses from occurring.

We are gravely concerned about enforced disappearances and reports of human trafficking and sexual exploitation. We are alarmed about restrictions on media freedom and civil society groups, and the mistreatment of people in vulnerable situations, including migrants.

Looking forward, the UK strongly supports the renewal of the FFM’s mandate in order to ensure the human rights situation continues to be monitored on the ground. The FFM’s contribution to transitional and restorative justice is and will continue to be an inherent part of the peace process.

Mr Chairman,

How can the international community help you to achieve your aims? What support do you need to be able to effectively conduct your important work?
