Details
Data from the Individualised Learner Record (ILR) and the Inter-Departmental Business Register (IDBR) have been matched. This allows information about apprentices to be linked to business information about their employers, covering:
- learner characteristics: age and gender
- apprenticeship information: level and subject studied
- employer characteristics: industry sector, size, region and legal status
These experimental statistics relate to the five academic years between 2012 to 2013 and 2016 to 2017. This is the first publication of the 2015 to 2016 and 2016 to 2017 figures.
Information on apprenticeship starts and participation by type of industry between academic years 2010 to 2011 and 2014 to 2015 has previously been published as a research report.
Statistics for 2018 to 2019
The release of statistics on apprenticeships in England by industry characteristics have been delayed so that the most useful and up-to-date data can be incorporated into the calculations. They were due to be released in October 2019.
The delay is to enable analysis looking at the impact of the introduction of the apprenticeship levy on employers engaging with apprenticeships, as well as including data from the 2018 to 2019 academic year.
