Background

The Community Life Survey collects information about the way adults (16+) perceive their neighbourhood and community

Headline Measures – 2019/20

  • 35% of respondents agreed that they borrow from, and exchange favours with, their neighbours.
  • 82% of respondents agreed that their area is a place where people from different backgrounds get on well together.
  • 76% of respondents were satisfied with their local area as a place to live.
  • 63% of respondents felt they belonged to their neighbourhood.
  • 84% of respondents felt they belonged to Britain.

  • The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government published the ‘Integrated Communities Action Plan’ which contains a range of cross-government measures to support the government’s commitment to build strong integrated communities where people, whatever their background, live, work, learn and socialise together, based on shared rights, responsibilities and opportunities.
  • Social capital headline indicators, which presents data on subjects including the opinions of respondents about their neighbourhood
