May 2024 update

A dementia indicators factsheet is published which includes new indicators for the NHS well pathway for dementia.

Each indicator will include: an introduction; latest findings; relevance of dataset; methodologies and interactive charts.

Data includes rates or proportions and confidence intervals for England, 7 NHS regions and integrated care board areas.

The data themes include:

  • dementia new diagnoses and diagnosed dementia incidence rates

  • people with dementia who are also included in the primary care palliative and end of life care register

  • people with dementia who also have cardiovascular comorbidities recorded in primary care records

  • people with mild cognitive impairment, not yet with a diagnosis of dementia

  • people with dementia with a diagnosis prior to 65 years of age (young onset dementia)

About the dementia profile

The dementia profile is designed to improve the availability and accessibility of information on dementia. The data is presented in an interactive tool that allows users to view and analyse it in a user-friendly format.

The profile is structured around the NHS England well pathway for dementia with indicators arranged into 5 data domains:

  • pathway on a page

  • preventing well

  • diagnosing well and prevalence

  • living well and supporting well

  • dying well

Indicators in the dementia profile are shown for integrated care boards (ICBs) and sub locations (sub ICBs) where used, and for local authority geographies. This data gives local commissioners and providers the information needed to benchmark current practice against other areas in England and the England level.
