Details
Fieldwork for the Summer 2023 wave of the PAT took place between 9 June and 10 July 2023 using a push-to-web methodology, covering a sample of 4,003 individuals in the UK.
The methodology, which was introduced in Autumn 2021, uses random probability sampling. Respondents are invited to participate through letters sent out to addresses randomly selected from the postcode address file (PAF). They can complete the survey online or on paper.
These results should not be compared with the face-to-face results or online panel results from waves prior to Autumn 2021 due to selection and measurement effects. A summary of the methodology is provided in the Technical Overview report. A more detailed description of the survey methodology used since Autumn 2021 together with core survey metrics for Autumn 2022 to Summer 2023 is given in the Technical Report.
The results have been split into topic-based reports. These reports also include the results from previous waves from Autumn 2021 onwards and make comparisons with these results where possible. Some topic reports relate to areas which were under the remit of the former BEIS and will no longer be updated but are still available - see latest results for these topics:
- Workers’ rights - Autumn 2022 wave
- Artificial intelligence and Businesses and trade - Summer 2022 wave
- Consumer issues - Spring 2023 wave
From Summer 2022 onwards we no longer publish the PAT datasets but more detailed versions will be available via the Secure Research Service (SRS). This change was proposed when the results from Spring 2022 were published and no comments were received from users. Instead, we are now publishing time series and crosstabulations by sex, age, education and region for selected questions.
We have decided not to run the Autumn 2023 wave, which largely covered topics that do not fall within the remit of DESNZ. Energy-related questions from the Autumn wave will be accommodated in upcoming waves of the survey where possible. The next publication will cover results from the Winter 2023 wave and will be released in March 2024.
We are always interested in feedback on the PAT. If you have any comments or questions on this publication, or the proposal for the upcoming waves please contact us at PAT@energysecurity.gov.uk.
