This statistical report presents the Forestry Commission’s 6 headline key performance indicators (KPIs) (Official Statistics).
The main findings are:
- the area of woodland in England at 31 March 2020 is estimated to be 1,311 thousand hectares - this represents 10.05% of the total area of England
- 344 hectares of new woodland was created with support from the Rural Development Programme for England in the second quarter of 2020 to 2021 - brings the total area planted with this type of support in the first half of this financial year to 534 hectares
- there were 13 high priority forest pests in the UK Plant Health Risk Register at 30 September 2020
- 99.87% of known tree felling in England was carried out with Forestry Commission approval in the year to 30 September 2020
- 59% of woodland is in active management England at 30 September 2020
- the forecast cost for 2020 to 2021 of managing the nation’s forests managed by Forestry England is £91.10 per hectare at 30 September 2020, against a target cost of £77.42 per hectare for the year
- there are 538 businesses operating in the nation’s forests at 30 September 2020
