This ad hoc management information release provides the total number of Band 3 to 5 prison officers working in Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Services (HMPPS).

This ad hoc has been released in the interest of transparency, specifically to help inform progress against the prison officer recruitment commitment announced in the November 2016 Prison Safety and Reform White Paper. This follows a previous ad hoc release on 19 October 2017 which showed HMPPS workforce (prison officer recruitment) management information: August 2017.

These data are not Official Statistics but the core principles of the Code of Practice for Official Statistics have been followed.
