Consultation response: Disaggregated tax receipt statistics
Updated 8 February 2021
1. Background
HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) was keen to identify the specific uses of the disaggregation of HMRC tax receipts official statistics publication by its users to establish if continuation of the publication was warranted. A proposal was put forward to stop the production of the publication with a consultation running from 20 October to 23 November 2020.
2. Feedback summary
HMRC received one response to the consultation from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The ONS uses data provided by HMRC to produce its Country and Regional Public Sector Finances (CRPSF) publication. The CRPSF is also quality assured using comparable data presented in the disaggregated receipts statistics publication. The ONS requested that data requirements continue to be provided by HMRC to allow production of the CRPSF within current publication timeframes. The ONS also requested that HMRC continues to work with them to ensure statistical outputs meet user needs in the future.
We would like to thank the ONS for taking the time to respond to the consultation.
3. Consultation response
HMRC has decided to cease publication of disaggregated HMRC tax receipts. HMRC will implement these changes immediately with the final publication of the disaggregation of HMRC tax receipts publication being December 2019.
HMRC will continue to meet the ONS’s needs for data for the CRPSF, working with the ONS to support production through provision of data and through quality assurance activities.
