This release provides estimates of machinery investment made by farmers in England. The results are sourced from the Farm Business Survey and cover a broad range of expenditure from office and irrigation equipment to tractors and combine harvesters.

1. 17 March 2026

   The dataset was revised on 17 March 2026 after a calculation error was found in table 3.1 (Percentage of farms buying or selling machinery): the 'Purchased new' and 'Purchased used' rows were showing values for 'All purchases'. This has now been rectified, and no other data was affected.

2. 1 May 2025

   Dataset and commentary updated for 2023/24.

3. 3 October 2024

   Machinery investment on farms in England dataset updated for 2022/23.

4. 29 March 2019

   Updated to reflect amended machinery definitions. There are no changes to the previously published figure.
