Highlights

  • The quantity of landings (tonnes) decreased in May 2021 when compared to May 2019 and 2020 down 35 per cent and 37 per cent respectively. The value landed (£000’s) decreased compared to 2019 (down 38 per cent) however, there was 0 per cent change when compared to May 2020.

  • The cumulative landings from January to May 2021 showed a decrease of 19 per cent from the same period in 2019 but a slight increase compared to 2020 (1 per cent).

  • The changes in value are disproportionate to the observed increases in quantity landed. This is likely driven by landings in May 2021 composing mostly of shellfish and demersal species which usually fetch a higher price. Low pelagic landings are likely due to seasonality of major pelagic stocks with Mackerel and Blue Whiting fishing seasons finishing early in the year.
