  1. A second edition of these statistics has been published on 19 April 2024. Following the first publication of this release, Merseyside Police found an error in the data they initially supplied to the Home Office on Detentions under section 136 of the Mental Health Act 1983. Figures on the number of people taken to a Health Based Place of Safety and figures on the number of people taken to A&E as a place of safety were reported the opposite way round. Chapter 2 of the statistical bulletin and associated data tables accompanying the release have been updated to reflect this revision. All other chapters and associated data tables remain unchanged following this revision.

  2. First published.
