Details
- There are 5,700 entries for GCSE subjects in England for the autumn 2021 exam series (not including English language and mathematics). This represents 0.2% of the total entries in the summer 2021 exam series (3,771,440 for subjects other than English language and mathematics) and 31% of the total entries in the autumn 2020 series (18,450).
- The subjects with the highest numbers of candidates entering are English literature, other modern languages, and combined science.
- The majority of entries (59%) are for candidates in year 12 (3,350 entries). Most candidates were 16 years old at the end of the 2020 to 2021 academic year.
- 82% of entries (4,685) are in EBacc qualifications, a slightly higher proportion than seen in the provisional GCSE entry figures for summer 2021 (75% across all subjects except English language and mathematics).
This release includes entry figures for GCSE for the autumn 2021 exam series but does not include English language and mathematics, which are routinely available in a November series, and will be published separately.
Other modern languages consists of GCSEs in Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Dutch, Gujarati, Italian, Japanese, Modern Greek, Modern Hebrew, Panjabi, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu.
