Provisional estimates of road traffic, by

  • vehicle type
  • road class

in Great Britain for the year ending March 2022.

Provisional estimates show motor vehicles travelled 318.6 billion vehicle miles in Great Britain for the year ending March 2022. This is a 29.7% increase compared to the year ending March 2021.

When compared to the year ending March 2021:

  • car traffic increased by 32.9% to 237.5 billion vehicle miles
  • van traffic increased by 25.2% to 58.8 billion vehicle miles
  • lorry traffic increased by 10.1% to 17.8 billion vehicle miles
  • traffic on motorways increased by 38.0% to 65.4 billion vehicle miles
  • traffic on ‘A’ roads increased by 29.6% to 138.5 billion vehicle miles
  • traffic on minor roads increased by 25.6% to 114.7 billion vehicle miles
