Provisional estimates of road traffic, by

Provisional estimates show motor vehicles travelled 332.4 billion vehicle miles in Great Britain for the year ending March 2024. This is up 2.1% compared to the year ending March 2023. Traffic levels were 1.8% below pre-pandemic levels.
When compared to the year ending March 2023:
- car traffic increased by 2.6% to 252.5 billion vehicle miles
- van traffic increased by 1.1% to 58.2 billion vehicle miles
- lorry traffic decreased by 2.0% to 16.9 billion vehicle miles
- traffic on motorways increased by 1.9% to 70.1 billion vehicle miles
- traffic on ‘A’ roads increased by 2.6% to 146.5 billion vehicle miles
- traffic on minor roads increased by 1.6% to 115.8 billion vehicle miles
