In the financial year ending 2015, local authorities reported that 4% of the principal ‘A’ road network in England should have been considered for maintenance, the same as in the financial year ending 2014 and 1 percentage point lower than in the financial year ending 2008.

For both trunk motorway and trunk ‘A’ roads, the proportion of the network that should have been considered for maintenance in the financial year ending 2015 was the same as in the previous financial year.

In the financial year ending 2015, 7.5% of the principal ‘A’ road network across England received maintenance treatment. Over the same period, 3.9% of the minor road network (‘B’, ‘C’ and unclassified roads) received maintenance treatment.
