Details

Road length in Great Britain for 2015 was estimated to be:

  • 245.9 thousand miles
  • 100 miles greater than in 2014, an increase of less than 0.1%
  • 5.8 thousand miles greater than in 1995, an increase of 2.4%

By road type:

  • major roads accounted for 12.7% of total road length
  • minor roads accounted for 87.3% of total road length

in Great Britain for 2015.

Statistics on road length do not reflect alterations to the width or number of lanes on sections of road. For an indication of upgrades or improvements of this kind being completed on the Strategic Road Network in England, please refer to separately published statistics in Table RDE0104.
