Details
The Segment tool provides information on the causes of death and age groups that are driving inequalities in life expectancy at local area level. Targeting the causes of death and age groups which contribute most to the life expectancy gap should have the biggest impact on reducing inequalities.
The Segment tool was first published in January 2014, and last updated in November 2022. The following changes have been made to the Segment tool since the previous update:
- data for NHS regions and NHS integrated care boards was added
- existing data has been refreshed as follows:
- final 2021 deaths data replaces provisional data used in the previous release
- deaths have been re-allocated to areas based on the May 2022 postcode lookup file, replacing the May 2021 postcode lookup file used in the previous release
The tool now contains data for England, English regions, local authorities, NHS regions and NHS integrated care boards.
