About the UK presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance
From 1 March 2024 to 28 February 2025, the UK holds the presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
International collaboration about the Holocaust
The UK government is committed to international cooperation to promote education, remembrance and research about the Holocaust. The UK was one of the founding signatories of the Stockholm Declaration on Holocaust remembrance in 2000. Through this, we pledged that the terrible events of the Holocaust would remain forever seared in our collective memory.
International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance
The UK government plays a leading role internationally in remembering the Holocaust and addressing antisemitism, including as a member of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA). The IHRA unites governments and experts to:
- strengthen, advance and promote Holocaust education, research and remembrance worldwide
- uphold the commitments of the Stockholm Declaration on Holocaust remembrance
UK presidency of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance
During the UK’s presidency of the IHRA, the UK Special Envoy for Post-Holocaust Issues, the Rt Hon Lord Pickles, is the chair of the Alliance.
The theme of the presidency is ‘In Plain Sight’, to draw attention to the fact that the Holocaust did not happen in a dark corner. The presidency will highlight how society allowed the murder of 6 million Jewish men, women and children. It will shine a spotlight on everyone who played a part, and explore the circumstances that led to the Holocaust.
The presidency aims to:
- safeguard Holocaust remembrance, for now and the future, through educating young people, protecting the facts and safeguarding the record
- address Holocaust distortion, including the role of artificial intelligence in both supporting and countering deep fake technology online and disinformation on social media
