DHM visit to Delta

British Deputy Ambassador to Egypt, Stephen Hickey, visited Menofiya, Tanta and Zagazig on 27 and 28 November. He had meetings with the governors of the Menofiya and Sharqiya governorates, as well as meetings with a range of political activists, civil society actors and journalists.

During his visit Mr Hickey said: “I have been struck by the openness and hospitality that I have been shown by everyone I have met. It was a privilege to hear about the particular challenges the Delta region faces and the action that is being taken to try to address them. The UK is a firm friend of the Egyptian people and I am grateful to all my hosts and hostesses.”

The British Embassy in Cairo regularly conducts visits outside the main urban centres to deepen the UK’s understanding of Egypt. The UK also partners with NGOs and civil society organisations working in these areas, including £200,000 in support of the Egyptian Association for Marketing and Development’s project to improve the quality of government services provided to citizens in Minya and Menofiya.
