GREAT British Week in Singapore
The British High Commission and the British Council held its first GREAT British Week from 7 to 14 March 2015.
As announced by Number 10 in the press release issued on 22 October 2014 for the recent state visit by President Tan, the British High Commission and the British Council held the first GREAT British Week from 7 to 14 March 2015.
The ‘Knowledge is GREAT Britain’ themed week in Singapore showcased the best of British innovation, creativity and education, and the opportunities for continuing collaboration with Singapore in these areas. Held in Singapore’s Jubilee year (SG50), it presented an outstanding opportunity for companies of both countries, large and small, to create new connections, and for the public to take part in various events.
The GREAT British Week is the culmination of all GREAT campaign activities held in Singapore over the past year – specifically Formula One and the Shopping is GREAT Britain campaign.
The GREAT British week involved activities around 3 main pillars:
- Innovation
- Creativity
- Education
Events
As part of the GREAT British Week, UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) hosted 2 trade missions – one on the Experience Economy and the other for Invest Northern Ireland.
Other exciting events included:
- UK Education Fair – led by British Council
- Thomas Heatherwick Exhibition at the National Design Centre Singapore
- Bloodhound SSC exhibition
- Creativity showcase by selected UK companies
- Innovation Partnership Forum and workshops
- Intellectual Property seminars led by the Intellectual Property Office (IPO)
