Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender roundtable discussions
On 7 February the British Embassy in Budapest hosted two lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender roundtable discussions.
As part of the first Hungarian Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) History Month, which Deputy Head of Mission Theresa Bubbear opened on 1 February, the discussions focused on the appearance of homosexuality in Hungarian literature in the early 20th century and the history of the Budapest Pride Festival. Over one hundred people attended the event which ended with a reception in the embassy’s Old Banking Hall.
The British Embassy in Budapest actively supports events that highlight the importance of tolerance. In May 2012 the embassy commemorated the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO). In July 2012, as part of the Budapest Pride Festival, Ambassador Jonathan Knott took part in the pre-march LGBT picnic.
