New British High Commissioner Designate arrives in Dar es Salaam
Ms. Sarah Cooke, the British High Commissioner Designate to Tanzania, arrived on 24 August 2016 in Dar es Salaam.
Ms. Cooke succeeds Ms. Dianna Melrose and will be the third successive female British High Commissioner to Tanzania.
Ms. Cooke joined the British Civil Service in 2002. She has worked in a number of UK Government departments including the Department for International Development (DFID), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit in the Cabinet Office.
She also served as the Deputy Head of the Commission for Africa Secretariat. Most recently, she was the DFID Country Representative in Bangladesh. Prior to joining the British Civil Service, she worked as an economist in London, Guyana and the Solomon Islands.
On her appointment, Ms Cooke said:
I am delighted and deeply honoured to be taking up my new position as British High Commissioner in Dar es Salaam. The United Kingdom and Tanzania enjoy a strong, longstanding partnership and work closely together on our many shared interests, including trade, investment, development and security. I am committed to strengthening our partnership still closer and look forward to getting to know Tanzania and its people.
