Prominent Vietnamese blogger has appeal rejected
Vietnamese human rights blogger, Le Quoc Quan, found guilty of tax evasion despite widespread concern that his initial arrest was politically motivated.
We are concerned about the judicial process surrounding the trial of Vietnamese lawyer and blogger Le Quoc Quan following the failure of his court appeal. We believe that he was imprisoned for exercising his right to freedom of expression.
The UK is a strong defender of freedom of expression. We believe fair and transparent judicial systems are one of the central foundations of a society that respects human rights.
As a new member of the Human Rights Council and being party to Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights we hope Vietnam will meet its obligations to respect the fundamental right of all persons to hold and freely express their opinions in a peaceful manner.
