Queen Elizabeth II portrait competition launches
Artists of all ages from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Fairfield County Connecticut are invited to submit portraits of Her Majesty.
On September 9, 2015, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will become the longest-reigning monarch in British history when her reign surpasses that of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria.
The British Consulate General New York is delighted to mark this historic occasion by inviting members of the public to produce a new portrait of Her Majesty. One winner in each of three age groups (under 11, 11 to 18, 18+) will be announced at a reception at the British Consulate on September 9, and their portraits will be on permanent display at the Consulate.
“We are very excited to celebrate Her Majesty’s reign with this competition,” said Consul General Danny Lopez. “We can’t wait to discover the artistic talents of those who live in our consular district. The winners will join some of Britain’s most celebrated artists when their masterpieces are hung up in the consulate, where they will be seen by ministers, royalty, and many other distinguished guests.”
