Statement by British Deputy High Commissioner to mark World Peace Day
British Deputy High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Laura Davies has issued a statement to mark the 32nd International Day of Peace.
The theme of the 2014 International Day of Peace is The Right of Peoples to Peace
“The theme of the 2014 International Day of Peace is The Right of Peoples to Peace. This recognises that the promotion of peace is vital for the full enjoyment of all human rights, including, of course, the right to life. Peace in Sri Lanka has brought many additional benefits, including opportunities for economic growth and political participation: today is also the first anniversary of the first Northern Provincial Council elections. The UK continues to support Sri Lanka in its quest to further consolidate reconciliation, democracy and human rights in the country.”
