Turks and Caicos post Cabinet update
Governor, Peter Beckingham chaired the TCI Cabinet meeting at the House of Assembly Building on Grand Turk on Wednesday 18th June 2014.

All Ministers were present except the Hon. Premier who is travelling on official business.
At this meeting Cabinet:

Approved the following appointments to the Scholarship and Advisory Committee in accordance with the provisions of the Universities, Colleges and Training Institutes Ordinance; Mr. Redono Williams (Chairman) and Ms. Lorniqua Gardiner (member) for a period of one year commencing 1st July 2014;

Approved, effective immediately, the following appointments to the Prison Visiting Committee in accordance with section 44 (1) and (2) of the Prison Regulations; Mr Perry Missick (Chairman), Mr Leo Selver (member), Mr Solomon Altidor (member), Mr Martin Theodore (member), Ms Patronella Been (member);

Received a presentation on the draft TCI Agricultural Policy. The policy objective is to provide for a balanced development of an agriculture sector which contributes to the food and nutrition, security status, economic growth and development, and welfare of the people of the TCI. The policy will be reviewed by relevant Government Ministries and Departments and will return to Cabinet for further consideration in due course;

Received an update on the current work-plan of the statistics unit and the establishment of the Turks and Caicos Islands Statistical Advisory Committee. The committees objective is to promote the effectiveness of the Turks and Caicos statistics department by advising and working with the Department to produce relevant and accurate statistics about the Turks and Caicos society and economy;

Agreed in principle to advise the Governor to amend the Road Safety Regulations (Public Service Vehicle Operators) to eliminate the maximum age of seventy-five (75) years allowing persons over the age of seventy-five to operate a vehicle once being deemed physically fit by a physician. This is subject to further advice from the Director of Road Safety and the Director of Health Services on the procedures and criteria to be applied to determine fitness to operate a vehicle;

Advised the Governor to make an amendment to the Business License Regulations to allow a further extension of two months for businesses operating in the Islands to pay for their licenses without the application of the 10% penalty for late renewal of a licence. This change would allow businesses a further period until the 31st August 2014 to pay the required license fee for the April 2014 - March 2015 financial year.
