Adoption in Singapore

What to do if you are planning to adopt a child in Singapore.

If you’re not habitually resident in the UK, you will not be adopting under UK law. You’ll need to follow the laws of the country where the adoption is taking place. See GOV.UK for guidelines on adopting a child from overseas.

Singapore’s Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) requires a Letter of Support from the embassy or high commission of any foreigner wishing to adopt a child in Singapore.

We can only issue a letter similar to what the MSF requires if the host country is a signatory to the 1993 Hague Convention on Protection of Children and Cooperation in Respect of Inter-country Adoption. Singapore is not a signatory, so we are unable to issue any such letter.

The British High Commission in Singapore is unable to give any further advice on adoptions. You should seek legal advice on this.
