Applying for a trade remedies investigation

Find out whether a trade remedy is right for you and how to get advice on your application.

How to apply for a trade remedies investigation

You can apply to the Trade Remedies Service if you want the Trade Remedies Investigations Directorate (TRID) to investigate imports which are causing or threatening injury to UK industry.

There are 3 types of trade remedy measure:

  • anti-dumping remedies
  • countervailing remedies
  • safeguard remedies

Find out more about trade remedies and TRID investigations.

Check if a trade remedy is right for you

You can only ask for a trade remedy if you believe imported goods:

  • are being dumped on the UK market at prices below their normal value or benefiting from subsidies
  • there is a sharp, sudden increase in imports to the UK of a certain product

You cannot use this service to report:

  • issues relating to an individual transaction
  • a dispute with a company about a contract
  • anything which does not relate to dumping, subsidies or surges of imports which may be subject to a safeguard measure

Getting help deciding whether to apply

Our pre-application office (PAO) can:

  • help you decide whether a trade remedy is appropriate for you
  • advise you on the requirements involved in an application
  • answer your questions on other aspects of the service

If you would like to make an application, email the PAO at contact@traderemedies.gov.uk

Getting help with your application

You do not have to talk to the PAO before making your application, but if you do you can discuss your draft application without the time pressures involved in the formal application process.

If you would like to discuss making an application, email the PAO at contact@traderemedies.gov.uk.

How the pre-application office (PAO) works

The PAO provides informal guidance and support to potential applicants on how to complete an application for a trade remedies investigation.

The PAO is independent of the TRID investigation teams and does not:

  • complete the application form on your behalf
  • get involved with cases once an application has been formally submitted
  • guarantee that an investigation will be started because you have engaged with the PAO

Apply for a new investigation

If you want to ask us to investigate whether a new trade remedy may be needed, you must register with the Trade Remedies Service.

Once you have registered, you can download an application form.

Submit your application form

When you are ready to formally submit your application form, you will need to provide both a confidential and a non-confidential version.
