Applying for registration with the IAA

Information on applying for new or continued registration, increasing advice levels, fees, and the application process for ex-offenders.

Overview

How to apply

To apply for initial registration, or continued registration with the IAA, you will need to use our online forms system, which includes all application forms. Start by accessing the system through our online portal.

If you’re new to the portal, you will need to create an account first. Simply select ‘Applications’ on the top menu of the portal. For additional support with completing your application form, check the guidance tab in the portal, where you’ll find helpful information and resources.

Registered organisations applying to increase their advice level

Immigration advice organisations who wish to increase the level that their organisation work at must complete an application form through the online portal.

The portal has a guidance tab at the top of the menu which provides instructions on submitting your application, details on required information, and answers to frequently asked questions.

Registration and continued registration fees

All organisations must pay a fee for an application for registration unless the applicant is a person who is:

  1. providing immigration advice or immigration services in the course of a business that is not for profit
  2. does not charge a fee, directly or indirectly, for the provision of that advice or those services and pay a continued registration fee when regulated by the Commissioner

The fee is dependent on the level of advice intended to be given and, for a level 2 or 3 application, the number of prospective advisers. Visit the registration and continued registration fees page for more information and a detailed breakdown of costs.

Process for applications from ex-offenders

The IAA is committed to the fair treatment of all advisers and applicants. Having a criminal conviction will not necessarily prevent you from being regulated by the IAA. For more information about our approach and process, refer to the applications from ex-offenders’ guidance.
