Approved finishing unit inspection

Information for beef producers about inspections carried out on facilities used to finish cattle from TB-restricted and unrestricted farms.

Who gets inspected

The Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA) inspects every approved finishing unit (AFU) and application for an AFU.

What gets inspected

APHA inspects the facilities, buildings, animal locations and relevant records of all premises acting as approved finishing units (AFUs).

Time and length

AFUs are inspected annually. Areas of higher risk mean more frequent inspection. Inspections typically take 1 hour.

What happens next

If you’re non-compliant you’ll get a call, letter and follow-up visit or letter. Enforcement measures mean APHA removes your pre-movement TB testing exemption.
