Ask to continue to use Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF) from 1 October 2022

Use this form to ask for permission to continue to use CHIEF for imports temporarily from 1 October 2022.

You can no longer ask to continue to use Customs Handling of Import and Export Freight (CHIEF). If you want to import goods you must subscribe to the Customs Declaration Service.

If you have been unable to migrate to the Customs Declaration Service to make import declarations you will need to ask permission to temporarily use CHIEF from 1 October 2022.

We are aware that one Community System Provider is having problems processing messages from the Customs Declaration Service and are helping them to resolve them.

Do not apply for an extension to use CHIEF regarding this issue.

What you’ll need

Your EORI number, and the EORI number of any subsidiaries you are requesting the extension for.
