Book an MOT tester demonstration test
Book an MOT tester demonstration test when you’ve got your level 2 MOT testing certificate or if you're returning to testing after a break, lapse or suspension.
Applies to England, Scotland and Wales
Book an MOT tester demonstration test if you:
- are a newly qualified MOT tester
- are a class 4 and 7 tester and you’re adding class 3 or 5
- are returning to MOT testing after a break
- missed the annual training and assessment deadline
You can do the demonstration test at either:
- the training centre where you took the qualification course
- an MOT centre you work at
You do not have to pay to do the demonstration test.
Book a test online
If you’re newly qualified, add your level 2 MOT testing certificate number to your MOT testing service profile before you book.
To book you need:
- your MOT testing service user ID
- the email address you use to sign in to the MOT testing service
- the name and ID number of the MOT centre or training centre you want to take your test at
- a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) consent check code
If your DBS check shows unspent convictions or you do not have a consent code
You can still book a test if:
-
you believe your unspent convictions do not constitute as serious offence as detailed in the convictions and repute section of the MOT testing guide
-
you do not have a consent code because you have a basic disclosure certificate in Scotland
After you apply to book your demonstration test, you need to post your DBS certificate to DVSA.
How to send your DBS certificate
You should send DVSA:
- all pages of your original DBS certificate
- a self-addressed stamped envelope or pre-paid special delivery envelope to get your DBS certificate back
- a covering letter
Your covering letter must include:
- your full name
- your MOT user ID
- the date you submitted the online form to book a demonstration test
- which testing group you’ve requested a demonstration test for
