Guidance

Cladding Safety Scheme opening

The Cladding Safety Scheme will provide funding for the remediation of unsafe cladding in England where a responsible developer cannot be identified, traced, or held responsible.

Applies to England

The Cladding Safety Scheme is available to all eligible buildings between 11-18 metres in England and new funding applications for buildings over 18 metres outside of London.

The scheme will be delivered by Homes England, see further guidance.

We are committed to making homes safe, quickly, and proportionately. The department will continue to promote a common-sense approach; funding works that make the building safe without disruptive - and at times unnecessary works. Funds will be available to mitigate life-safety fire risks related to cladding where recommended in a Fire Risk Assessment of External Walls (FRAEW).

FRAEWs are undertaken by fire safety professionals using the British Standards Institution code of practice, PAS 9980. This offers guidance to support proportionate remediation.

The Building Safety Fund will continue to administer funding for applications already accepted into the fund. It will also accept new applications from private and social sector buildings over 18 metres inside London, continuing its delivery partnership with the Greater London Authority.

The Cladding Safety Scheme will be available to the social housing sector on the same basis as the Building Safety Fund, increasing the funding available to the sector. The department will also commission the collection of data on remediation progress by the social housing sector, with the findings published in due course.
