We are the Operational Delivery Profession

The Operational Delivery Profession is the public face of the Civil Service with over 290,000 members. We support operational delivery professionals to succeed.

We are ODP – the Operational Delivery Profession.

We’re the public face of the Civil Service and the beating heart of government, bringing vital services to millions of people around the country and abroad. As the largest profession, we make up over half of the Civil Service, working directly with the public or supporting those who do.

From calculating customer benefits and helping people find employment; processing passports, licenses and taxes; preserving our history and natural environment; managing our prisons and securing our borders, our work across departments makes a difference every day and helps the business of government run smoothly.

We support operational delivery professionals to succeed.

ODP is here to champion your career and develop your skills – from AA through to SCS. Our Professional Skills Framework can help you find the right learning and development for your job family and role profile, with courses and qualifications for individual requirements.

We offer apprenticeships, qualifications, a Fast Stream scheme, and our own development programmes from AA to SCS level. There’s also our Senior Community of Practice and Centre of Excellence which help operational delivery leaders learn from experts and each other. You can find mentoring and coaching on our LISTR tool too – so no matter your role, there’s a learning opportunity for you.

We have recently launched our ODP Professional Skills Framework to help our ODP members understand how to develop and progress their skills and career as an Operational Delivery Professional.
