Evidence-based learning and development
Find out how Government Skills uses high-quality data to shape learning for civil servants and public sector leaders.
Government Skills uses high quality data and evidence to inform its work.
Our Evidence and Impact team uses different types of analysis, including social research, economic analysis, statistics and data science to generate this data and evidence.
We enable evidence-based decision-making on the skills the Civil Service and the wider public sector needs now and in the future. We support the evidence-based design of learning and development for civil servants and public sector leaders. We evaluate the impact, quality and value of what we do using robust, trustworthy methods.
We work in partnership with other experts on skills and analysis across academia, industry, the Civil Service and the wider public sector, to make sure we can make joint progress in using data and evidence to answer difficult questions about the relationship between public sector workforce skills, effective learning and development, and important outcomes - like employee experience, the performance and productivity of the civil service, and delivery against the Government’s priorities.
We also work closely with learning and development practitioners across government, the public sector and our commercial partners to make sure that these professionals have access to the evidence and data collection tools they need to deliver effective learning and development for our workforce.
