Good conduct and police clearance request letters

Letters explaining that British embassies, high commissions and consulates do not issue UK criminal record certificates. Sometimes called information notes.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office cannot provide documents confirming a person’s criminal record in the UK, for example, good conduct or police clearance certificates.

If you’re asked by local authorities to provide proof of this, download the relevant letter free of charge.

Good conduct certificate unavailable

If you’re asked to provide proof that British embassies and consulates do not issue good conduct certificates, download the relevant letter.

If your country or territory is not listed, use the ‘All countries and territories’ letter.

You can get a signed and stamped version of a letter, which costs £50.
