Government Finance Academy
The Government Finance Academy vision is to build financial capability for finance and non-finance professionals across government.
Overview
The Government Finance Academy (GFA) was launched in February 2016. The GFA provides a cohesive learning and development offer for finance professionals across the Civil Service. Our overall objective is to provide high quality learning and development offers to help improve financial skills, capability and talent across the finance profession.
What we offer
We offer a wide range learning and development opportunities and materials, including interactive online learning digital products alongside face-to-face training events, technical updates, webinars and networking opportunities. These are delivered through the GFA core finance curriculum underpinned by the GFF Learning and Development Strategy.
The curriculum is a collection of high-quality learning structured activities, from basic ‘how to’ fundamentals to more advanced ‘skill building’. The curriculum covers all the skills that civil servants in the finance community need to achieve their potential and provide excellent public finance services.
Investing in our people
Changes in technology and people living and working longer, require people to improve their skills throughout their working lives and commit to lifelong learning. The Government Finance Function (GFF) though the GFA must invest in the development of professionalism, skills and experience, across the Civil Service, to ensure that resources deliver the best value for money and achieve better outcomes.
Whilst our professionals must maintain their technical expertise, we must also develop the full range of skills that people need, now and in the future, to ensure we can deploy solution-focused people who are the trusted partners of the customers they serve and who can influence decision-making at all levels.
