The role of judicial assistant

A judicial assistant provides important support to members of the court.

A judicial assistant may have to:

  • clarify issues before a hearing
  • identify and summarise important facts, procedural history and legal issues

Judicial assistants must be confident working side-by-side with Lord and Lady Justices as well as demonstrating high intellectual ability, incisiveness and an ability to work under pressure.

The role is extremely challenging and often attracts successful solicitors and barristers at the start of their careers.

Judicial assistants are appointed from the beginning of October to the end of July.
