Public submissions to support review into the number of prisoners who died on Alderney during the Nazi occupation
Instructions on how members of the public can submit their submissions to support the work of the team of experts leading the review.
Instructions for submissions from members of the public:
Please note that any submission that does not use this format will be disregarded.
1. Name and contact details of person making a submission. This should include an email address. Where a team is involved, please nominate a lead person, and make only one submission.
2. Brief summary of findings or hypothesis (no more than one paragraph).
3. Methods used for counting (what approach have you used for counting, and what sources have you used?)
4. Rationale for method (i.e., please explain why you have taken the approach you have chosen).
5. Your detailed workings (please show the reader how you reached your conclusions; in other words, what information you took from your sources and how you counted). Where you have used publicly accessible archival records, please be specific about their exact source, for example, ‘The National Archives file reference XYZ, testimony of person A’ (feel free to scan / photograph the sources). Where you have used private or inaccessible records, please scan / photograph them, and include them with your submission and state which records they are and where they are from. Details of source of information is vital; the veracity of the details you provide cannot be checked without them and may be disregarded if they lack this crucial element.
6. If you have a list of names of victims, please present these in the form of a table so that they are easily reviewed by the panel.
7. Your conclusion (what is your final number / number range?)
8. Please submit your work by email in PDF format to reduce file size.
Your submissions will be sent to the team of experts for review.
Notes for submissions
1. All submissions should be made in an electronic format, meaning that all materials should be scanned or photographed and added to an electronic document. The final document should be submitted in PDF format to reduce file size.
2. Should any individuals wish to work together, only one submission should be made rather than multiple copies of a submission or variations on a theme of the same work.
