Reception baseline: approval process for assessments

Information about how to submit potential assessments for consideration in the reception baseline.

This guidance was withdrawn on

The deadline for submissions has passed. Further information on reception baseline assessment is available on the Reception baseline assessment: guide to signing up your school guidance page.

Purpose of the reception baseline

The reception baseline is being introduced to help assess school effectiveness by providing a score for each pupil at the start of reception which reflects their attainment against a pre-determined content domain. This score will be used as the basis for an accountability measure of the relative progress of a cohort of pupils through primary school.

Schools will be able to choose from a list of approved reception baseline assessments.

How to submit assessments for consideration

Submission details and requirements are published on the Contracts finder website.

All submissions will need to meet the baseline criteria (PDF, 207 KB, 5 pages). The deadline for submission of evidence against the criteria is 15th December 2014. An approved list of reception baselines will be published early in 2015.
