Recognition of foreign marriage and civil partnership letters

British embassies, high commissions and consulates cannot confirm the validity of a foreign marriage or civil partnership in the UK.

If you’re asked to provide proof of the validity of a foreign marriage, download the relevant letter. You can get a signed and stamped version of a letter, which costs £50.
