Replace a lost or damaged MOT centre authorisation certificate
Get an MOT centre authorisation certificate (VT9) for your MOT centre's noticeboard if you've lost or damaged the original.
Applies to England, Scotland and Wales
You must display a current MOT centre authorisation certificate (VT9) on the public noticeboard at your MOT centre.
You need to get a replacement certificate from DVSA if you’ve lost or damaged the original.
You can apply for a replacement certificate online. This service is free.
You cannot use this service to change your details on your VT9 certificate. Apply to make a change to your MOT centre instead. You’ll then be sent a new VT9 certificate with the new details.
Apply for a replacement certificate
You can only apply for a replacement if you hold one of the following roles at the MOT centre:
- site manager
- authorised examiner principal (AEP) – one of the business owners or directors
- authorised examiner designated manager (AEDM) – the person who oversees the management, operation and quality of all MOTs in the business
- authorised examiner delegate (AED) – a person who assists the AEDM with managing MOT testing
Before you start
You need:
- the authorised examiner (AE) number
- the MOT centre number – sometimes called the MOT testing station ID or vehicle testing station (VTS) number
What happens next
DVSA will email a PDF version of your certificate to you within 7 working days.
You must print this out and display it on the public noticeboard at your MOT centre.
Save the PDF file so you can print out replacements if your certificate is damaged or lost in the future.
