Small Modular Reactors: technology selection process
Progress of GBN's Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology selection process.
In July 2023, GBN issued a Contract Notice setting out an intention to enter into a two Stage contract for design, development and construction contract with those successful bidders.
Procurement Progress To-Date

In July 2023, interested parties were required to respond to a selection questionnaire. This concluded in August 2023.

In October 2023, GBN down-selected six technologies, who would be eligible to bid into the next phase of the procurement.

In March 2024, these six vendors were invited to submit initial tenders. GBN received five bids by the July 2024 submission deadline.

In September 2024, GBN concluded the initial tender phase of the technology selection process. The down-selected companies are:

5.In October 2024, Great British Nuclear (GBN) issued an Invitation to Negotiate to the four companies. After these negotiations are concluded, the companies will be invited to submit Final Tenders, which GBN will then evaluate. A final decision on which technologies to select will be taken in the spring. GBN will provide further updates in due course.
