The Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission
The Commission was convened to advise government on how to promote and increase the use of high-quality design for new build homes and neighbourhoods.
Applies to England
The Building Better, Building Beautiful Commission was responsible for developing practical measures that will help ensure new housing developments meet the needs and expectations of communities, making them more likely to be welcomed, rather than resisted, by existing communities.
The Commission published their final report, Living with Beauty in 2020. The government welcomed their report and committed to implementing as many of the recommendations as possible.
To help deliver on the recommendations made by the Commission, the Office for Place has been established in the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and its vision and remit is informed by the central themes and policy propositions in Living with Beauty.
