Defence Test & Evaluation (T&E)
Information about using Ministry of Defence (MOD) T&E facilities and getting involved in test and evaluation transformation.
MOD tests and evaluates its military systems to ensure they are safe to operate and fit for purpose. This work requires the use of specialist facilities and test sites in the UK and overseas. MOD is investing in a programme of transformation across the defence enterprise to ensure the way defence conducts T&E is fit for the future.
Accessing Test and Evaluation services
Defence and non-defence users can access some MOD T&E capabilities through a dedicated service called T3E. The Test, Trials, Training and Evaluation (T3E) service operates fifteen MOD land, sea and air ranges and provides a range of specialist test facilities, technical expertise, and support. T3E services are managed on behalf of the MOD by defence contractor QinetiQ.
Further information about T3E ranges, services and how to access them can be found on the T3E website.
Test and Evaluation transformation
To ensure that defence can continue to assure the safety and performance of increasingly complex military systems in a contested and volatile world, MOD has launched the T&E Transformation Programme.
This programme will help drive the adoption of new digital and mobile tools, helping defence users make better use of a blend of data from real world and virtual testing. This will help assure complex military systems and technologies and ensure they reach the front line faster.
To achieve this goal the MOD’s T&E Transformation Programme will engage across MOD and defence suppliers to consult on a blueprint for the future, make support available for innovators and identify joint enablers. The programme will also shape the requirements for MOD’s future T&E services, ensuring they are fit for the future.
If you are a defence supplier or partner and want to find out more about T&E Transformation, access research, resources or get involved in designing the future, please contact the programme team.
Future Advantage Through Evaluation (FATE)
We must think beyond evaluation for acceptance to evaluate for advantage, using T&E to unlock the potential of our military systems. This approach covers multiple stakeholders and customers, both internal and external.
FATE provides a foundation for discussion within the UK defence sector upon which to collaboratively develop a vision and roadmap for the future T&E enterprise, setting out how and why T&E is changing and how defence will respond.
