How does a contractor get to use EDI?
To make use of Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), a contractor must be registered with the Electronic Business Unit (EBU).
To register, a contractor can use one of the following:
- Email - the EDI Registration Form needs to be downloaded by accessing the following site . After completion, the form is then emailed as an attachment to helpdesk@hmrc-efile.gov.uk the downloaded and completed form can also be faxed to EBU on 01274 534618, or
- Post - the downloaded and completed form can be sent by post to:

Following registration, a representative from the unit will contact the applicant to discuss what happens next and the way forward.
How does a contractor register for CIS online services?
