CDSSG03020 - Step-By-Step Guide Dos and Don'ts
Dos:
- Ensure you are making or intending to make a declaration to CDS before using this guide.
- Begin with familiarising yourself with the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 using the Navigation section of this Manual.
- Ensure you are within the appropriate version of the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 for the type of movement you are making.
- Follow each of the steps detailed in sections CDSSG06000 - CDSSG13000, in their entirety and in the order shown. Failure to do so will result in declarations being rejected by CDS.
- Ensure you refer to the latest version of the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 each time you make a customs declaration or Customs Clearance Request (CCR).
- Customs declarations or Customs Clearance Requests (CCR) must always be completed based on the specific circumstances and version of the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 in force at the time the declaration is being made.
Don’ts:
- Use this Step-By-Step Guide if you are making or intending to make a declaration to CHIEF
- Assume you know what information is required to be completed in a given data element based on CHIEF knowledge or codes as the information requirements, codes and formats are different in CDS.
- Use the CHIEF Tariff to make a declaration to CDS or vice versa.
- Use this Step-By-Step Guide to complete a customs declaration or Customs Clearance Request (CCR) to CDS without referring to the actual UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3.
- Assume you know what information is required in a given data element without referring to the latest version of the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 on Gov.UK as it is a live document and subject to regular revision.
- Use the examples provided in this Manual as a template for a customs declaration or Customs Clearance Request (CCR).
