The Court of Appeal has highlighted the judgment debtor’s right to legal help (formerly known as ‘legal aid’) in committal proceedings. The judgment debtor has a right to represent himself or be represented and, if he has insufficient means, to free legal representation.

If the judgment debtor is not represented the court may adjourn the application for committal, to await the decision of any application to the Legal Services Commission (formerly the Legal Aid Board).
