DMBM680530 - Ordinary Cause: What happens when the initial writ is received in court

Once satisfied that the initial writ is in order the court will register the case, giving it a case number and also attach to the initial writ a warrant of citation (court form O1) (DMBM680090).

The sheriff clerk deputy will then sign the form granting the pursuer authority to serve a copy of the initial writ and warrant of citation on the defender(s).

These documents together with the “blue copy” of the form E200 will then be returned to you for service.

You should always quote the case number and the name(s) of the pursuer(s)/defender(s) whenever you enquire to the court about a case because all court records are filed in case number order.
