IDG54080 - Information disclosure Gateways with other government departments: Police: Disclosure to National Wildlife Crime Unit (NWCU)
The NWCU is a police-led unit that gathers intelligence on national wildlife crime and provides analytical and investigative support to police and customs officers across the UK.
HMRC is responsible for enforcing the international rules that regulate the import, export and transhipment of species of flora and fauna regarded as being in need of protection under CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species), so may provide the NWCU with information in support of their intelligence gathering role.
Information may be disclosed in the public interest to the NWCU by the CITES team, under s20(2) CRCA 2005 (see IDG60000). All other disclosures to the NWCU must follow the established ATCSA procedures.
